Church in Arrecife
Similar to the shot I posted of the same church last week which is a couple of pages back in the gallery. This one was taken in portrait format then cropped to 1:1 aspect ratio using some perspective correction. (G1 doesn't have 1:1) Several references have been made in the forum and in the gallery to "converging verticals" - an effect of wide angle lenses. This is one way of overcoming them - to make the view appear more "natural" ie. as the eye sees it. 5 seconds at F11. Sorry no exif.

Hi Gordon,
I much prefer this version with the pillars parallel to the frame, it is much more pleasing.
Shots with symmetry, like this one, are great but also think of shooting towards a corner. The aisle would then provide a leading line to the altar (set at one of the thirds) which would then naturally lead your eyes around the photo.

Was this one also shot at 7mm Gordon ? you appear to have got this one ‘spot on’ but comparing the two the perspective distortion on the 1st one is very acceptable I think. Nice lighting on this, we tend to forget in the grey gloomy UK what a big advantage good light can be when abroad.

Thanks Ken & Roy, Yes it was taken at focal length 7mm but in “portrait” format – 3:4 – I utilised the top 2/3 of the frame and “sacrificed” the bottom/foreground. It’s a pity they didn’t give us 1:1 but there’s more than one way of skinning a cat!
