Woodland Fantasy
Phil Surbey's comments:
"John's come up with a cracking image here – a great observation of beauty within a forest of green foliage and varied textures. From the lens used to the focus point chosen, it really gives you a close-up insight into an English forest. The mottled sunlight through the trees creates some lovely soft pastel colours throughout the shot, and the gaps in between the foliage, revealing splashes of vibrant blue sky, help to give this image a real mystical feel."
BigRed's comments:
The art of photography is almost impossible to define. Each practitioner brings their own view of the world around them to the subject. For me, it’s all about creating interesting and hopefully unique images. Sometimes these involve elaborate setups and post processing to achieve an idea I have in mind. On other, fortunate, occasions I’m lucky enough to spot something rare and beautiful through the viewfinder amidst the visual chaos and the mundane surroundings of everyday reality. This is one of those shots, and on balance it’s one of those I’m most proud of creating during my first year with a G1. Aside from RAW development in Lightroom there is no post processing here, the image is exactly as recorded during an October walk in the woods testing various lenses on the G1. It won’t match everyone’s conception of what makes a good photograph but I hope you enjoy the creative possibilities it suggests. All the best, John.

Wow! I love the colours in this shot! I’d love that hanging on my wall. Beautiful!

Thanks Debbie
It was the unique quality of the light that drew my eye to the shot. The rest was just a matter of using a wide aperture to isolate the blossom remnants it was falling on and diffuse everything else.
